Cat’s banana cake is the perfect tea cake for those left over weekly bananas! Try making it, my kiddies love it!


  • 125 g unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup caster sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla essence
  • 1 egg
  • 2 medium sized ripe bananas (the more black spots it has, the sweeter the cake)
  • 1 ½ cups self-raising flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon (optional)


Melt the butter, sugar and vanilla in a medium-sized saucepan and bring to boil for 2’. Remove from the heat and transfer in another bowl adding the bananas (whole and mash them with a fork). Add flour, cinnamon, egg and milk all at once in the mixture and fold in lightly. Bake at 170° C for approximately 55 minutes.
