I’m pretty sure you’re familiar with the term “friend zone”, but for those who aren’t, “the friend zone” refers to a situation where one person in a friendship wants to become “more than friends” with the other person. How many times have we been stuck in this situation, I wonder! Most of the times, the other person is completely clueless about their friend’s desires and as a result, one of the two is “stuck” in the friend zone, unable to transition from “just friend” to girlfriend or boyfriend.
Being stuck in the “friend zone” is tough; however, it really is unfair to let the fear of the unknown prevent you from making a move.
I’m here to help you escape the “friend zone” smoothly and painlessly.
- Be less interested:
The first rule is to avoid looking needy! Looking desperate is not attractive and it will only get you what the other person gives you rather than what you want. Take a step back and try to be less interested. Show that you will walk away if they’re not ready for the kind of relationship you need.
- Avoid them:
Staying all around will only make them feel suffocated. Make them notice your absence and let them miss you a bit. Based on the scarcity mentality, people value something after it has been taken away from them. I’m not saying to avoid them forever; I’m only saying that you should remind them that you have your own personal life and you won’t be around 24/7, neglecting completely your own life.
- Show your independence:
The moment you realize that you have been put in the “friend zone”, you will need to show them that you’re independent and can live without them. Make sure they know that you’re in control of your life and have a lot of fun without them, too.
- Create some competition:
It works every time! You don’t have to actually see other people, just create some mystery around your romantic life. This way will make them realize that there are other people who might want you. If you find them acting weird, or be a little jealous, it’s a good sign that you might coming out of the “friend zone” soon.
- Make a move:
All the above won’t be of any use if you don’t make a move. You can only accomplish your goal of getting out of the “friend zone” after you have made your intentions known. Ask them out, have fun and tell them how you feel; or even better, show them!
Being stuck in the “friend zone” and wanting more can be a frustrating position. The whole transition from a friend to a lover could be nerve wracking and it requires patience and smooth moves. You have to remember your own worth along the way and be willing to walk away if things don’t go as planned. In any case, you have to be true to yourself and just give it a go.
It’s worth the trouble!
